Identity verification (KYC/KYB)

Some organisations require an investor to confirm their identity before acting on a data room. Waafir supports this with an identity-verification step (KYC — Know Your Customer). This page covers, from the investor's perspective, when you are asked, what the process involves, and what changes once you are verified.

When verification is required

Viewing a data room you were invited to does not require identity verification. Verification applies when an organisation requires it for investor onboarding, typically before you are recognised as a verified or accredited investor within that organisation. When it applies, a "Verify Identity" action appears in your profile settings, and the steps that require verification remain gated until it is complete.

The verification process

Identity verification is handled by Didit, a specialist identity-verification provider, through a guided flow:

  1. Start verification from your profile settings.
  2. Complete Didit's verification steps. This normally means photographing a government-issued ID document and taking a short selfie so your identity can be confirmed against the document.
  3. Didit processes the verification and notifies Waafir of the result securely.
  4. On success, your account is upgraded within that organisation and the gated steps unlock. The page refreshes to reflect your new status.

Didit runs the check, not Waafir staff, and you complete it yourself. There is no manual document exchange with the deal team.

Per-organisation scope

Identity verification is scoped to the organisation where you completed it. Verifying your identity while accessing one organisation's data room applies that verified status to your membership in that organisation. Engaging later with a different organisation that also requires verification may require verifying again in that context. This keeps each organisation's compliance record self-contained rather than sharing one global status across unrelated parties.

What verification unlocks

Once verified, your role within that organisation is upgraded automatically — for example, to a verified or accredited investor — and any steps gated behind verification become available. No notification or manual approval is required; the upgrade follows directly from a successful verification.

Business verification (KYB)

KYC as described above — verifying an individual's identity — is the supported flow today. Business or entity verification (KYBKnow Your Business), which verifies the entity behind an investor rather than a person, is not yet available in Waafir. If your process requires entity-level verification, handle it through your existing offline process for now. This page will be updated when KYB is supported in the product.
